Emily, a lonely woman, heads from her flat in the neighbourhood of Caballito in the city of Buenos Aires towards the fascinating England of the 1970s, in search of a man she only knows by correspondence. Suspended between fantasy and reality, she wanders through the streets of London, losing herself in the city’s grandeur and sordidness. In the gardens of Surrey she discovers where Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West used to stroll; she goes to the races at Ascot and to the opera in Glyndebourne. She rubs elbows with a society to which she would like to belong, but which sees her as outsider. When at last she picks up the trail of her loved one, a misunderstanding leads her to a starring role in a cabaret. Who hasn’t had the illusion of being someone else? How many women have charged ahead to fulfil their fantasy?
