On February 13, 1826, the Regimiento de Granaderos a Caballo de los Andes (Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers of the Andes) returned to Buenos Aires, where it had been created on March 16, 1812.
With their participation in the Battle of Ayacucho, Perú, on December 9, 1824, which marked the end of Spanish rule in South America, an eight-year military campaign concluded, giving freedom to Chile, Perú and Ecuador. This campaign also consolidated our independence.
This is the account, based on original documents, of the return of these nearly one hundred selfless renadiers. You will learn who they were, how they thought and acted in the face of the difficulties they had encountered, and the circumstances they lived in the odyssey of their return home.
