The game “pato” (duck), the national sport of Argentina, has an uncertain origin. Apparently It was invented by the Spanish and played by their descendants, who, to show off their skills, played it for an enthusiastic and admiring audience.
Initially, pato was a free-for-all game played with a real duck inside a bag with handles, later, teams were formed and the duck was replaced by a ball with handles.
This book is about the history of the pato, it explains how it is played today, and presents stories by Argentine writers who describe it with enthusiasm.
